Basquiat’s Ex-Girlfriend Reveals Major Trove of Unseen Works

An interesting collection of works from Jean-Michel Basquiat is about to be made public by his ex-girlfriend Alexis Adler. In 1979, the still unknown artist began painting the walls and door of her East Village home which she smartly preserved until now along with notebooks, postcards, painted clothes, photographs, drawings on yellow legal paper, and other ephemera. Adler, along with a team of experts, has begun to sort through the material in preparation for a book, an exhibition, and sale so it will be interesting to see what […]

Streets: Bumblebeelovesyou – “Walk the Dog” (Hollywood)

Bumblebee’s street work oftentimes deals with serious issues, such as youth homelessness and environmental awareness. His most recent mural though, a 8’x40′ piece located on the corner of Melrose and Spaulding in Hollywood, CA, is of a more whimsical and personal sort. Walk the Dog combines the artist’s childhood past times and hobbies of yo-yoing and skateboarding. As winter transitions into spring, be reminded of how much fun you had during spring break with no school and endless hours with your four-legged best friend and […]

Previews: Matt Small & Fran Williams – ‘The Way We Were’ @ Signal Gallery

We’ve been long time followers of Matt Small here at AM, so we read news of a new two person show in London with anticipation. The Way We Were pairs the locally based artist with Swansea-based Fran Williams, and opens at Signal Gallery on 28th March, with a preview evening scheduled for Wednesday the 27th. This is the first time we have come across Fran’s work, and her figurative work seems to be a good fit with Small’s own uniquely styled portraiture – his heavily […]

Openings: WK Interact – “WK 360” @ Jonathan LeVine (Pop-up)

A little while back, AM attended the opening for WK Interact’s mid-career survey at Jonathan LeVine’s pop-up outpost. Entitled WK 360 (previewed), this all-inclusive exhibition collected artwork from the past 25 years by the notable French-born & New York-based street artist’s storied career. From indoor to outdoor, WK has always fascinated us with two aspects of his art. The first is his ability to capture the kinetic energy through his motion driven works and the the second is his intricate and equally creative street “contraptions” that are […]

Upstart Spanish street sensation Aryz has been very busy working on outdoor murals since he burst onto the scene a couple years ago. With his focus on the streets, he hasn’t had much time to transition to gallery work (see his 2011 show in Spain), so it will be interesting to see his solo coming up April 19th at Fifty24SF in San Francisco which will apparently might include some sculptural pieces as well. Follow his instagram here to get more glimpses of what to expect. […]
