Openings: “Viva La Revolucion” @ Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

Saturday evening in San Diego was a great night for street, urban, and new contemporary art. With many of the museums in so-called cultural centers of this country and world still slow to embrace a rapidly growing movement, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego made it clear where they stand with an amazing exhibition of some of the major players in this art “Revolucion”. Not only did the city open up their public spaces to the artists (albeit still with some naysayers), they also […]

Releases: CEPT – “Again & Again” Hand-Finished Screenprint

It’s not often that you find AM regurgitating a press release, but this email we got from CEPT recently about his newly released hand finished edition made us chuckle so much that we thought we should repost it here in all its glory… I think we all know summer is statistically the best time time to find love, or to put it crudely, at least get your leg over more than usual. While the sun is out and libidos are soaring, It can be the […]

Preview: Viva La Revolucion @ MCASD

AM headed down to San Diego on Friday morning to catch the press preview of Viva La Revolucion at MCASD (check out our street coverage here). It was great to wander around the Jacobs Building and get a sneak peek of everything the artists have been working on indoors after seeing all the amazing pieces that have been popping up on the streets of the city. Pedro Alonzo, the exhibition’s curator, led a talk around the museum and spoke about the different artists and their work. Shepard Fairey, David Ellis, Stephan […]

PortugalArte 10: Faile (Part 2)

It looks like Faile (featured) has completed the amazing cathedral-like installation in Lisbon for PortugalArte ‘10 that we first showed you teaser pics of here. The sheer size and detail of this project from the Brooklyn duo is nothing short of mindblowing, comparable to the immersive installations of Banksy. The seamless integration of their imagery as well as the craftsmanship of this art structure is pretty amazing. More detailed pics after the jump sent to us from Dflektor blog.

Openings: “Artefacts” @ TT Underground Gallery

Thursday night, AM attended the grand opening of Toy Tokyo’s new gallery TT Underground. The newly christened space held a group street art exhibition that included works from Shepard Fairey’s (featured), Swoon (interviewed), Mister Cartoon, Koralie, Lin “Quik” Felton, James & Karla Murray, Cope2, Owen Dippie, Rime MSK, Estevan Oriol, Clayton Patterson, Faust and Katsu. The gallery was packed from the get go as the crowd was hyped to check out the diverse lineup. Check it out after the jump.

The print image is based upon the mural that AM saw the quartet laying down on a hot day at the end of May in Los Angeles. The release will be a time limited edition, with the print being made available from editions house Static Medium starting right now and then for one […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey for Viva La Revolucion (Part 3)

After finishing his mural in Hillcrest for the Viva La Revolucion exhibition, Shepard Fairey’s (featured) moved to the next spot – South Park (29th and Ivy). From the looks of things, this piece will be a larger version of his “Burmese Monk” image. Those in San Diego, make sure you get out and find all these street gems by these major artists as most likely, this will be the only time in the near future where you will have this opportunity in your hometown. More […]
