Since you are reading this article, you are probably familiar with the internet and thus familiar with the occasionally changing Google icon (see Jackson Pollock & Norman Rockwell). Remember when we posted some interesting gems gleaned from Takasahi Murakami’s twitter. We now know where some of these prints Murakami-san was furiously signing in this photo are headed – to Hidaro Zingaro. For those who haven’t heard, this is the new gallery for the Super-Flat founder’s Kaikai Kiki division that opened in April, located on the third floor of Nakano Broadway (site of the previous Inochi display). We were impressed with the preview images we saw from Tat Ito’s debut New York solo show, Momento Mori, at the Joshua Liner Gallery, but were still blown away after seeing the paintings in person at the opening. Ito’s new paintings retain much of what we loved in his previous work, such as the humorous and unique costumed characters and delicate silver-leafed backgrounds. It’s been over two years since we attended the opening for a Takashi Murakami show at the Gagosian in London. At the end of June, fans in the UK will again have a chance to enjoy the Superflat master’s work in person, this time at the Britannia Street space. New York-based Japanese artist Tat Ito makes his NYC solo debut with a show at the Joshua Liner Gallery entitled Memento Mori, the opening reception for which takes place 6-9pm this Thursday. The Latin phrase (literally “remember you will die”) often is used in reference to artwork representing death or the impermanent nature of life.
