Basel Week Miami ’10: Blum & Poe

Los Angeles contemporary art staple Blum & Poe was yet another in a seemingly never ending stream of must-see booths at the main fair, Art Basel Miami Beach. Takashi Murakami @ Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (New York)

When fall began, we kicked off coverage of Takashi Murakami’s concept to create two giant floats in the image of his beloved studio mascots Kaikai & Kiki for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Today, he wished us Happy Thanksgiving from New York as he surprised spectators by donning a flower costume rolling on a little float decorated with his famous “Jellyfish Eyes”. It seems that many great artists we know are in a constant state of work and improvement when it comes to their craft. After a exhibition at the Chateau de Versailles in France, it appears that Superflat master Takashi Murakami is already diving deep into work (shirt off of course) in preparation for his November 13th show at the Gagosian in Rome. Akino Kondoh on “the Shortlist” for Youtube Biennial @ Guggenheim Museum

AM friend Akino Kondoh has just been announced as one of the artists making “the Shortlist“ for the Guggenheim’s first annual Youtube Play: a Biennial of Creative Video. Wittled down from over 23,000 videos in over 91 countries, Akino will be one of 125 finalists to go before a panel of distinguished judges including Takashi Murakami, Marilyn Minter and Ryan McGinley. Next week will be pretty big for contemporary art in France. Not only is Jeff Koons opening his newest show in Paris, his pal Murakami will be opening his exhibition in Versailles, just like Koons did in 2008.
