Last night, the Chinatown location of LeBasse Projects hosted Mixtape Los Angeles, a group show curated by by Jessicka Adams and Brian Wakil of Dark Dark Science with part of the proceeds going to Downtown Dog Rescue and Stray Cat Alliance. Twenty four artists created pieces that explored “the effect of music on the process of creation” including Camille Rose Garcia, Elizabeth McGrath, Gary Baseman, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, Matthew Bone, Melissa Haslam, Tara McPherson, Tim Biskup and more. Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky gallery held an impressive exhibition showcasing new work of four very talented female artists – Aiko, Deedee Cheriel, Lindsey Way and Tara Mcpherson. Last weekend, the outdoor fields and indoor hanger Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona were the venues for the hand-painted vintage planes of The Boneyard Project: Return Trip. Our friends at the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil project have been celebrating the art of the circus poster since late last year, commissioning Cirque-inspired pieces by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, El Mac, Jon Burgerman, Jason Limon, Shag, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson with upcoming works by Tara McPherson, Ron English, Travis Louie and Miss Van. New York art collectors who operate on a budget, take note of a show this Saturday night at the Cotton Candy Machine. The Tara McPherson boutique and gallery space will be holding a grand openings exhibition featuring 100 artists with works for $100 on the 100th day of the year. You can see the full list of participants after the jump, but there definitely will be pieces from many of our favorite artists in including these Audrey Kawasaki cutouts seen above.
