On May 12th, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum will be opening Flourish, a group show curated by Thinkspace Gallery. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17 / Showing: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Showing in associated POW! WOW! Hawaii through the tomorrow at the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the 4th annual Exploring The New Contemporary Movement group exhibition (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014) curated by Thinkspace. Artists were asked to contribute 12 x 12″ pieces leading to a visually conforming display of works. Rounding things out was a showcase for Shok-1 (seen below) and a Homer Simpson x Banksy parody installation by Oak Oak (seen above). This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life. Oak Oak will also be presenting an installation as part of the exhibition and Shok-1 will be the featured artist. Last Thursday, Spoke Art in San Francisco held the opening reception for the latest edition of Suggestivism exhibitions curated by Nathan Spoor. Like previous group shows in Orange County (2011) and Rome (2013) and Los Angeles (2014), Spoor put together a stellar list of artists. Tonight at Krab Jab Studios in Seattle, a gallery specializing in the publication arts, group show Dream Covers will open. Tran Nguyen Smithsonian Magazine Cover

Tran Nguyen, whose work we last enjoyed in person up in Seattle (covered), recently worked on a cover for Smithsonian Magazine. The current issue, which we took a snap of at our local Barnes & Noble, features the artist’s illustration for the story of the fall and rise and fall of Pompeii, referencing the fact of how the archeological treasures are falling into a state of scandalous decline.
