Rewind: Jun 15 – Jul 6

As we share another Rewind feature with you today, you’ll notice the collection of art related videos headlined by a trailer for documentary titled Tim’s Vermeer (via Colossal). The film follows the attempts of a computer graphics specialist, who has no background in art, to duplicate a painting by Vermeer by recreating the room and props the Dutch painter used. Then, the premise that Vermeer used mechanical means to assist in his paintings can be put to the test. Take a look at the intriguing video […]

Openings: Tran Nguyen – “A Place Procured From Our Yesteryears” & Jason Wheatley – “Osmosis” @ Roq la Rue

Opening earlier this month, Tran Nguyen’s A Place Procured From Our Yesteryears depicts larger than life women amongst Parisian architecture. The muted tones set the mood while emotion spills from their eyes, suggesting they don’t feel as large as they appear. The diverse use of color in Jason Wheatley’s new works titled Osmosis, leap off the canvas, despite the mostly still-life subject matter. Each piece features some everyday items we might find in our kitchen, with the inclusion of wild life. Appearing in almost every piece, is the […]

Upcoming: Tran Nguyen – “A Place Procurred From Our Yesteryears” @ Roq La Rue

On Thursday night (August 1st), Roq La Rue will be hosting all new works from painter Tran Nguyen (alongside Jason “Ti Kunkit” Wheatley). After a couple showings in Los Angeles (here & here), A Place Procurred From Our Yesteryears will build on the delicate portraiture we have seen from her in the past with new acrylic & colored pencil pieces as well as some sketches. The imagery this time seems to be exploring the relationships between her characters and urban space as well as its implications. Discuss […]

Fans will want to make use of this opportunity and visit before the close of the exhibition on October 20th. Discuss this show here. Discuss […]
