Previews: “Creença (Belief)” Group Show @ Konvent Zero

Following the developments in an abandoned convent located about one hour outside of Barcelona, we recently decided to visit the ongoing Creença (Belief) art residency. Curated by Axel Void, through his new platform Void Projects, in close collaboration with the Konvent Zero art center, this unique project involved around 50 international artists who participated over the period of 2 months. Planned as a self-sufficient initiative which would provide artists the opportunity to work in a creative and motivating environment, the program turned into an utopia-come-true […]

Recap: Forest For The Trees (Portland) – Part I

With most of the Forest For The Trees murals finished, now’s the time to do the first part of our recap of this year’s event (also see 2013, 2014). The name of the mural festival comes from the phrase “they can’t see the forest for the trees” which signifies the inability to understand the greater picture when you’re too focused solely on what’s in front of you. Organizers Gage Hamilton and Matt Wagner of Hellion Gallery hope that the art will draw Portland’s residents away from their daily routine. Enjoy some photos […]

We recently brought you a preview of the group exhibition Oakland based artist Max Kauffman curated at Oakland’s LeQuiVive Gallery. Neu Folk Revival opened on 5th October and displays an analog survey of traditional folk based art with an emphasis on handmade, traditional art-making practices. The range of work on display is wide and varied with artists from a variety of backgrounds being brought together in this well curated exhibition – not necessarily tied together by aesthetic, but rather the emotive aspect of the craft and technique based work of each […]

Previews: “Neu Folk Revival” @ LeQuiVive Gallery

Oakland based artist Max Kauffman has teamed up with LeQuiVive Gallery to put together a huge group exhibition entitled Neu Folk Revival. Here Kauffman acts as participant artist and also curator of the exhibition, which places its emphasis on the handmade, and traditional art making practices and covers a broad range of artists considered to be working within the realms of folk art – be they artists, illustrators or graffiti artists. Folk art carries an interesting aesthetic, and is something that is hard to describe or categorise, […]

Showing: Troy “Other” Lovegates – “Shallow Lake” @ MOHS exhibit

At the end of last month, Troy Lovegates (Other) opened a solo show at MOHS exhibit entitled Shallow Lake. The new exhibition in Copenhagen features paintings and sculptural work created in the course of his travels including trips to Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, as well as a transatlantic cruise. Not only does the imagery feature portraits of people he saw on the streets, the old wood and frames used in his creations are scavenged from his “long winter walks or longer summer bike rides,” a real compilation […]

Good Folks looks another well curated show, and brings together a distinguished balance of artists from the fringes of the folk art, street art and protest art movements. This show celebrates the first two years of the gallery’s existence, so we wish them well and much […]

Releases: Vandalog Limited Editioned Shirts (Gaia, Faro & Troy Lovegates)

Our friend RJ at Vandalog has been working on this project all summer and we’re happy to announce that his project is now in full bloom. Tapping into some of his favorite street artists, RJ has created a very limited edition (less than 40) screenprint shirts to launch his new Vandalog clothing label. Being all about the artist, you won’t see the Vandalog logo anywhere, instead you’ll find all artwork dead and center. To start off, the three artist involved are Gaia (ed. of 37), […]
