This Saturday (January 16th), the Corey Helford Gallery will be opening the Asymmetrical Diptych group show. Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa – “Madness” @ The Shooting Gallery

Tonight in San Francisco, the Shooting Gallery will be presented all new works from the Seattle-based Yumiko Kayukawa. Entitled Madness, this will be the Japanese artist’s eighth solo the gallery and will feature her acrylic and ink paintings on canvas detailing the adventures of the characters and their animal companions. AM stopped by LeBasse Projects in Culver City on Saturday to take in new paintings from Japanese artist Yumiko Kayukawa. Entitled HAKURYUU – White Dragon, the new body of work centered on themes that came about after the devastating earthquake that hit Japan in 2011. Through her work, Kayukawa explores personal coping mechanisms in the aftermath of an unforgettably painful event and hopes the white dragon will be an omen of good fortune for the future of Japan. Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa – “Coming Home” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight at Roq La Rue, Japanese artist Yumiko Kayukawa will be introducing a new body of work in her home city entitled Coming Home, which will also be her first solo at the gallery since 2002. The Seattle-based painter has been working to expand her narrative since her show in San Francisco in March (covered) and continues her fascination with her female protagonists and their animal friends presented in complex compositions. Last weekend, AM stopped by to take an advanced look at the new LeBasse Projects location in historic Chinatown. Featuring the curatorial touch of Christine Le, one half of the husband and wife team behind the LA-based gallery, the show includes some female talent that has caught her eye like Seonna Hong, Yumika Kayukawa, Hera, Laura Ball, Melissa Haslam, and more. Portland-based Japanese modern pop artist, Yumiko Kayukawa opened her seventh solo show at Shooting Gallery on Saturday in SF. The show featured her signature acrylic and ink based works full of color, girls, animals, personal narrative, and imagination.
