Before Banksy could even put up a second piece from his ongoing monthlong Better Out Than In project on the streets of New York, his first effort already had a portion of it stolen and then painted over. The Big Apple arose this morning to a new piece though featuring the British street legend’s signature cheeky humor (reportedly on West 25th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues). Over the weekend, TAO held a monster party to launch their new location at the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, their second New York location. Over the weekend, Tim Biskup (featured) opened a solo show at the Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Charge. The new body of work showed the locally based artist’s versatility with works of all sizes including one of his largest paintings to date as well as an interactive piece that first was seen at the FYF Fest where fans were encouraged to pose in cutout holes and then upload the photos to Instagram under the tag #headinthehole. Bristol’s elusive street artist, Banksy, just launched a website, BanksyNY.com, which is dedicated to a new project he hinted at on his official website some 10 days ago. According to the site, Better Out Than In appears to be a month long street residency during which Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York. Joining an impressive lineup of artists to have collaborated with TheSK8room on limited edition skateboard decks, Ai Weiwei has released three different versions recently. Featuring graphics and quotes form the Chinese contemporary artist, the three designs are limited to a run of 150 each and retail for € 300,00. Seen displayed in the company’s Brussels showroom above, the numbered skateboards (with printed signature) will be sold to partially support a good cause with 20% of all sales going towards Skateistan. Over looking the Seine, La Tour Paris 13‎ is a project curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance. During a year, the entire building was painted by 100 international street and graffiti artists, each leaving their mark with murals and installations within the 36 apartments over 9 floors and cellars. Opening to the public for a month from October 1st, the building is due to be demolished in November, making it the largest temporary street art exhibition in France. Last week, the MOCA in Los Angeles held a release party for OUTSIDE THE LINES: An Artists’ Coloring Book for Giant Imaginations, a publication curated by Souris Hong-Porretta (seen directly below). Many of the animators, cartoonists, fine artists, graphic artists, illustrators, musicians, outsider artists, photographers, street artists, and video game artists made it out to the event to interact with fans and sign copies. Last month, we shared with you photos of a mural that Kenny Scharf (interviewed) painted in Los Angeles on the Davis Brothers’ Tire Pros building in Culver City. Recently, the New York street legend revisited the location and blessed the north wall of the structure with more of his signature imagery.
