Kevin Earl Taylor’s work has a timeless quality to it – within his work are we looking at scenes from an imagined future or relics from the past? The San Francisco based artist is back in the studio after a six month residency last year in Germany and currently gearing up for a large scale solo exhibition entitled Monument Adrift to be held in Portland at Breeze Block Gallery in July along with an exhibition by Chicago based Ryan Stewart Nault. Taylor works primarily with oils and […]

Next week, two graffiti artists we follow here on AM come together for a two person show in Bristol. Rowdy and Sweet Toof need no introduction as their jams have been seen on the world stage for years individually, together as a twosom,e and also as part of their former guise within the Burning Candy crew. Sweet Summer Solstice opens on the longest day of the year, June 21st at Bristol arts venue The Looking Glass, with an opening party serving Sweet Toof punch and Crocktails. The exhibition runs […]

Kid Acne’s coming back through like an amber gambler with the re-release of his 2003 album Council Pop in a special 10 year anniversary edition (has it really been 10 years?). AM readers will probably be more familiar with the graffiti / street art side of Kid Acne’s creative output, but if you haven’t heard his Yorkshire infused hip hop, then this could be an ideal intro to the world of Eddy Fresh. Streets ahead of his debut Rap Traffic, Council Pop lacks some of the […]

One of the satellite fairs during Basel Week Switzerland is the always quality SCOPE Art Fair. Although, this venue lacks the blue-chip luster of the main event (covered), we always find many familiar faces and intriguing works at this fair. Take a look at an overview of what was offered in the photos below… Photo credit: Andrew Hosner for Arrested Motion.

AM recently had the chance to visit pop-surrealist painter Hisham Echafaki‘s studio. Using acrylic and oil paint, the London-based artist loves exploring symetry and patterns, as well as depicting animals in a surreal environment, as shown in his kufic and butterflies series. We were fortunate to document some of the painting process of his Anthropomorphic Bowie pieces as he prepared for the upcoming group show The Many Faces of David Bowie at the Opera Gallery London. A couple weeks ago, we gave you a taste of what to expect for the KAWS solo at More Gallery opening during Basel Week Switzerland. Now, we have gathered some more detailed photos of the two massive wood companion sculptures as well as some of the tondos that were exhibited at the same time. We know it’s a trek to get out to the show even if you are in Basel at the moment, so if you can’t make it out before the August 26th close, just take a […]

Next Saturday night (June 22nd), the Copro Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting a new show from Peter Chan. For his first solo with the gallery and in the United States, the Toronto-based artist has created a series of works collectively entitled Soliloquy, a fitting title considering the introspective contemplations he had while producing these paintings (see statement below). Also take a look at the time-lapse video. Top 40 blares out the radio unheard, you’re stuck in traffic on the 405 but it doesn’t matter. […]
