A couple weekends ago in New York, painter Jim Houser opened a new exhibition at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Search Party was the fourth solo from the Philadelphia-based artist with the Chelsea showspace and featured a series of eight new works and a site-specific installation. Those familiar with Houser’s work will recognize his signature visual language and iconography in these new works as well as the many intriguing collage and playful sculptural components. Just this Saturday, AM joined JR (interviewed) and his crew at the renowned Tribeca Film Festival for the world premiere of Inside Out: The People’s Art Project in NYC. Next month, with the opening set for May 10th, Daniel Danger (interviewed) will be returning to the Cotton Candy Machine in New York for a second solo show (see 2011). The New England-based artist uses a process of drawing, digital manipulation, and screenprinting to create his brooding and desolate landscapes, often with solitary figures or structures. Look for selection of originals, drawings, new prints and merchandise, all which display deft hand lighting and color. Discuss Daniel Danger here.

On Sunday (April 21st), at 3pm Pacific Time, Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) will be releasing a new print based on his painting Falling Echo (detail shot above). If you remember, this was first introduced in his solo show in NY last year and features one of his iconic suspended astronauts. Tonight in Copenhagen, Dennis McNett (featured) opened his latest solo show at MOHS Exhibit entitled Wolfbats Are Real. For those who know of the Brooklyn-based print installation artist, you will be familiar with him spreading the lore of his hybrid creature with exhibitions, installations, and Viking ship performances (see New York in 2010). JR, who we interviewed several days ago, has been working hard this past week (see Part I), pasting new work all over the city of Berlin for his Wrinkles of the City project and show at Gallerie Henrik Springmann. Just over a week since the French street artist arrived, he leaves the city having produced 18 different pieces in just seven days. As usual, much of the placement is sublime. Spanish muralist and artist, Aryz, has been busy setting up his first US solo, Style Is The Limit at Fifty24SF in San Francisco. After recently working in different parts of India and South Africa, AEC (one half of Ukrainian street art duo Interesni Kazki) has now passed by Croatia, where he worked on a large scale acrylic painting titled Glad tidings in a small old town of Vodnjan. AM recently attended the much anticipated opening for Kenny Scharf’s latest showing at Paul Kasmin Gallery’s 27th St. location. Entitled Kolors, this new body of works center on three never before seen large scale sculptures. These 3-D creations revisit some of the symbolic characters which Kenny has developed over the past 30 years. Also on view were ten newly created paintings inspired by Color Field masterworks, which serve as a background to this fresh exhibition.
