Last week in Culver City, Miss Van (who was in town for her show at Copro Gallery) and Dan Quintana combined their powers for mural at the Branded Arts Complex. For this wall, entitled The Big Bad Wolf, street French femme fatale and the Los Angeles-based Quintana created a scene involving Vanessa’s signature poupée’s posed with a large wolf. If you have been following Camille Rose Garcia’s (interviewed) work closely, you will see that some clowns have been making it into her paintings. As evidence that the artistic spark and inspiration can come from anywhere, she recently revealed in her blog that some clown dolls (seen below) she bought on eBay (after her show at Michael Kohn) have been haunting her dreams and henceforth appeared in her imagery. Recently, Aakash Nihalani headed over to East Hampton, New York take part in the residency awarded by Lisa de Kooning at the Willem de Kooning studio. This Saturday, Shepard Fairey will present a fresh body of work created in collaboration with Neil Young. The show entitled Americana is Shep’s interpretations of the songs from Young’s recently released album Crazy Horse. This special exhibition will be held at Perry Rubenstein’s newly opened Los Angeles gallery.
