The second half of the Joshua Liner curated Go West exhibition featured work from versatile artist David Ellis, which took up half of Los Angeles’ Mark Moore Gallery (see Kris Kuksi’s part in the show here). All the principals behind the showing were present (see above – […]

It looks like Kelsey Brookes has been working on a new body of work for Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla, set to open in November. The upcoming series of paintings, drawing from the San Diego-based artist’s science background, will be inspired by structural diagrams of different neurotransmitters as well as the drugs that mimic them, both designer (i.e. xanex, prozac) and recreational (i.e. mescaline, LSD). And in other news, Brookes has been tapped to create covers for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they get set to release 18 […]

Just this past Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles hosted Go West, a joint show between Kris Kuksi and David Ellis curated by Joshua Liner that is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York last May where the two galleries roles were flip-flopped. For his part, Kuksi brought along several of the large mixed media assemblages that he is famous for. These time-intensive gothic creations are incredibly detailed and for those of you in the LA-area that have never seen one before in person, here […]

Last month, the Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong played host to Japanese artist Tat Ito a selection of his paintings. Shinagawa Shinju featured the NY-based artists riff on storytellers of Japanese rakugo, a form of verbal entertainment based on comical monologues about ordinary lives. Ito’s imagery is well suited for the subject matter as the miniature characters in his work are often involved in humorous situations in the rich background tapestry of his world. Check the photo set below… Photo credit: Hypebeast and the gallery. Discuss this show here. Discuss Tat Ito here.

Last weekend, the Venice location for Gallery 1988 presented a whole new body work from Dan McCarthy (interviewed). Dear Science is the New England-based artist’s third solo with the gallery (see 2010 and 2011) and featured a series of originals as well as limited edition offerings.
