Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) show “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi” opened last night at the Space Yui Gallery in Japan. The exhibition included some of her signature paintings of dreamy-eyed girls, who have a sense of innocence, yet paradoxically possess a touch of sensuality as well. However, it seems that in this body of work, although subtle, her characters are maturing in front of our eyes, perhaps with a hint of what’s to come. No canvas pieces in this show, but Audrey explores her lasercut technique further […]
This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw. Utilizing an intricate stenciling process, Logan was able to create scenic snapshots of some of the coolest urban landscapes we’ve seen from a stencil artist. Broken Crow brought mother nature back to the concrete jungle by integrating the animal back into the […]

Another great group show is opening this Friday, May 8th in Seattle at Roq La Rue gallery. The show entitled “Lush Life” mixes pieces from some familiar “old-school” artists with some promising new faces. We preview some of the paintings after the jump, including pieces from Joe Sorren (seen above), Chris Berens, Mia Araujo, Martin Wittfooth, Kukula, Tin and Glenn Barr.
Following up on our coverage of the “Vertigo” exhibition by Os Gemeos at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) of Rio de Janeiro, LostArt brings us a closer look at the visual parade put on by the twins from Sao Paulo. Sit back and enjoy the retinal delights awaiting after the jump…
Australian up-and-comer Melissa Haslam visits Los Angeles for her latest exhibition “Wild Fields” at LeBasse Projects opening this Saturday, May 9th, in the gallery’s project room. Her interesting use of independent girls and hauntingly beautiful botanic backdrops has caused quite a buzz with fans and collectors. Haslam’s been busy prepping for the opening, but made some time for a quick interview with AM. Read the interview and see a preview of the show after the jump…
Like we mentioned before, Travis Louie’s (interviewed) “Strange Grooming Habits†is fast approaching on May 9th at Copro Gallery. With a generous gallery space at his disposal, we are excited to see how his renowned attention to detail translates to some of the larger scale paintings in this body of work. More preview pics after the jump…
Yoskay Yamamoto’s (interviewed) latest body of work “Hello and Goodbye” (previewed) will open this Saturday, May 9th, at LeBasse Projects. Yoskay has been heads-down for the better part of 2009 crafting an intricate series of paintings for what looks to be a tremendous exhibition. Yoskay shares with AM his creative process for the “Possibly Maybe” piece from this show. See the entire step-by-step creative process after the jump.
AM’s whirlwind Los Angeles art show weekend capped off with a trip to New Image Art for the “Octo Pusses†group exhibition, which featured the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. The mixed media collage piece from Supine seen above absolutely stole the show. With its colorful, thought provoking imagery, patrons could not help but stop and take a closer look. It was also nice to see Bast’s (studio visit) return to […]
With Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) show in Japan fast approaching, we would like to pass on the information about her two newest print releases. The first is an exclusive print for her show at Space Yui entitled “Carry On” (seen above). It will be released as an edition of 100 and priced at $440 framed. Not sure if they are selling to overseas customers, but you can contact the gallery for more details. The second release will be one of the pieces from her “The Drawing […]
AM stopped by Nucleus Gallery couple weekends ago to check out the art and festivities of the Street Fighter Tribute show. The video game inspired art certainly delighted the crowd, but just as entertaining were the events associated with the show like the cosplay contest and the street fighter playing tournament. Check out all the pics after the jump…
One of our favorite artists, Audrey Kawasaki’s first solo show in Japan is opening this weekend at Space Yui Gallery in Tokyo. The show entitled “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi” will feature about 9 paintings, various sold-out editions, as well as an exclusive print of “Carry On” (more on that layer). Excited to find out more about the largest body of work (paintings) since her Italy show, we caught up with Audrey before she left for Japan and asked her a few questions. The answers as […]
