Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong will be hosting “Reading Through Seeing,” José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The show will open on May 14th and will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog with an essay by author and New York University scholar Alexandra Chang. Here is the first photo we have seen of Mark Ryden’s first ever toy – YHWH. The figure is titled after one of his paintings (seen after the jump) and also cleverly posed with a little girl as in the painting. Not sure what it is meant to be but one definition of YHWH is the God of the Old Testament as transliterated from Hebrew consonants. Perhaps it’s Ryden’s vision of the Almighty, at least in the world of his paintings. New Image Art packed the house last night with their “American Realities” group show featuring the work of Barry McGee, working under the pseudonym Lydia Fong, his wife Clare Rojas, and their long-time friend and collaborator Andrew Jeffrey Wright.
