What do you get when you put an empty, rundown building together with the UK’s hottest urban/street gallery? Just add a little graffiti and you’ll get one of the freshest shows of 2008!
As promised, Arrested Motion was on hand for the exclusive preview opening of the Lazarides “Outsiders†show. In attendance was a veritable who’s who of the UK Urban art genre. Antony Micallef, Conor Harrington, David Choe, JR, and even Steve Lazarides himself was on hand to mingle with the packed 2 floor show! Even a few surprise NYC artists (Kaws and Ron English) were on hand to attend the show.We were lucky to get in some pictures of the show with so many people packed inside with even more waiting to get into tonight’s preview opening.
Even from the outside, one could see that this show was something special. David Choe, JR, and Conor Harrington created distinct murals on the actual building which the show used for the “Pop-up†location. Inside, the property was transformed into an Urban showcase for the stars of the Lazerides lineup. Simply put, the level of worked displayed at this exhibition was stunning. There were quite a few gorgeous pieces at the show, with each artist not failing to impress with their strong level of work. No one can miss the gigantic Faile painting when they first enter the show. David Choe showcased his much talked about interpretation of Barack Obama’s Hope. Paul Insect had a very unique “glass table†installation aptly named “Skelli tableâ€. Invader’s signature tiled approach was displayed in a great triptych called “Bond Girlâ€.Conor Harrington gave us an stunning showcase with his complexity and talent. Ian Francis made quite the impression after seeing his work in person.
The show is in NYC briefly for only two weeks and runs until 10/12. If you are in New York area this is not a show to be missed!
