Our little art world celebrated one of its brightest stars last night when Camille Rose Garcia opened her show “The Hydra of Babylon” (setup) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Fans, collectors, artists and well-wishers turned out in droves to take in the Los Angeles based surrealist artist’s paintings, embellished drawings, murals, plushes and some nice little jar pieces. Garcia’s latest body of work explored the ideas of ecological collapse and human catastrophe along with the healing power of nature. Her bold new colors mixed with her special imagery made for a memorable night for all alike.

Check out all the photos from the show after the jump…

To thank loyal AM readers and her supporters, Camille signed some posters as a giveaway. We will mail this out to the first person who can tell us what bird the hydra has a hold of and how many heads the hydra has in the piece below – “The Hydra of Babylon.” We will also be giving away the other two posters on our forum and our facebook.
