Anish Kapoor, who recently returned to India to open his first solo exhibition there, has now traveled to Paris, the site of his first ever exhibition 30 years ago, to unveil Leviathan. The 35 meter tall work made from PVC is 13,500 square meters when inflated, forming a cathedral-like space inside (which viewers can enter) creating the illusion of being inside a giant whale. Kapoor has dedicated this new massive work, currently showing at the Monumenta exhibition in Paris’ Grand Palais, to Chinese activist and artist Ai Weiwei hopefully raising more awareness for his unjust detention by the Chinese Government.
