Streets: Banksy (London)

In a fitting nod to UK graf artist, Tox, who earlier in the month was charged with criminal damages for his ubiquitous tags across London and beyond, Banksy has issued a tribute in the form of his most recent street piece. Located in Tox’s hometown of Camden, the Bristol-based street icon has cleverly blended whimsy and nostalgia to bring attention to the legal situation of all five street artists brought down in the British Transport Police’s “Operation Misfit”. Whatever the cause for Banksy to get out onto the streets, noble or otherwise, we’ll take it, especially when the work is as enjoyable as this. Next up, the obligatory claiming of ownership, media frenzy, plexi-encasing, contractor salvaging, and auction house enrollment that comes along with every new piece that he “gifts” to the streets.

Discuss Banksy here.

Jennifer Saul, your illustrations look really really weak …you should learn to draw before saying things like this.

You shouldn’t critisize something you don’t understand or know nothing about. It’s got nothing to do with if you’re “good enough for art school”.

    • Banksy is a Vandal & Artist.

I enjoy Banksy’s Graffiti/Art as much as anyone else, but I think the reason for the piece is a statement about his graffiti and everyone elses. Why is his being saved and sold, while others are been buffed and erased. I respect Banksy’s for this piece cause it brings a good point. If anything, we should still be buffing Banksy’s or leave it all up. Who gets to decide what is art, and what is vandalism? It should either all be okay or non of it should.
