On the 22nd of November, Daniel Arsham opened a special project at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery in London, introducing a single wall intervention titled Bound Figure. Along with opening this show, the New York- based artist is taking part in Post Pop: East Meets West show at Saatchi Gallery as well as held the London premiere of his Future Relic 02 film, announcing his new limited edition sculpture release.

Following the series of signature works in which he creates pieces in which materials behave in unexpected ways, the installation created with fibreglass, paint, joint compound, fabric and a pair of shoes show a human figure covered with the gallery walls. By manipulating and distorting the basic architecture of the gallery space and making the wall surface act different than what we’re used, the presentation results in “transcending the boundaries of the white cube by physically  altering its framework.” We’ve seen Arsham creating similar interventions in different spaces, sometimes manipulating the surface, sometimes playing with the depth of the wall, and sometimes modifying it’s look and texture in unusual ways, creating a vivid illusion.
