Nicola Verlato (featured) recently reminded his fans of a commercial project he worked on a year ago centered on the incomparable Lionel Messi. The painting for Gatorade’s Don’t Go Down campaign features the superhero-like Argentine soccer player breaking free from a pack of defenders. The Italian artist’s paintings oftentimes features action shots of bodies suspended in moments of time so this seemed to be a perfect pairing of concept and artist. Recalling his month working with the agency on the project as a real struggle, Verlato now sees the positives when he relates he feels as if it ended up being one of my best paintings to date.
