Openings: Amanda Visell – “Primeval Love” @ the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles

As mentioned in our preview, Amanda Visell’s exhibition, “Primeval Love” opened last Friday at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Because of the vintage feel to her paintings and the imagery she decided to work with, the show blended in perfectly with the surroundings. In fact, as you can see from the photo above, this was definitely one of most unique and eye-catching settings we have seen for an exhibition in a while. More images after the jump…

Los Angeles based artist and master of wood figures, Amanda Visell, opens her solo show “Primeval Love” tonight, April 9th, at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Visell’s artwork has a retro-vintage feel to it like classic Disney work and it appears she has tailored her subject matter to match the locale perfectly. Openings: Poketo Benefit and Art Auction – “F%#K Cancer! We Love Justin.”

AM was in attendance at the “F%#k Cancer! We Love Justin” silent art auction held at Poketo studios. You may not recognize Justin VanHoy’s name, but you’ve undoubtedly seen the work he’s done as art director of Swindle and his contributions to Obey Clothing, Cobra Snake and Wired Magazine. All proceeds from the event went directly to support Justin’s recovery from a successful bone marrow transplant after a relapse of lukemia.
