Basel Week Miami ’10: Blum & Poe

Los Angeles contemporary art staple Blum & Poe was yet another in a seemingly never ending stream of must-see booths at the main fair, Art Basel Miami Beach. Of particular interest was a massive new work by Takashi Murakami, exhibiting the Japanese pop art icon’s unique range and continued evolution within his self-branded “superflat” style. Takashi Murakami – Inochi Exhibit @ Kaikai KiKi

It seems that some shows get all the glitz & glamour, and some shows just slide in & out without much ruckus. But one things for sure, high profile or not, Takashi Murakami and his Kaikai Kiki juggernaut do not half-step anything. Takashi’s latest show “Inochi” at Tokyo’s Kaikai KiKi Gallery ended last night, and AM has some pics from the land of the rising sun. More after the jump.

Openings: Yoshitomo Nara @ Blum & Poe

Last night marked the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s solo show at Blum & Poe (previewed and teased). The show features a large scale sculptural installation, and a new series of paintings and drawings focusing on Nara’s signature pastel-hued girls. At the center of the exhibition was a prairie-style wagon installation by YNG, a collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and Japanese design firm Graf.
