Streets: World Round (April 30 – May 6)

For our streets roundup this week, we’ll start with this interesting new piece in Detroit. The mural painted by SEVER was taken from the Instagram feed of SABER (interviewed) and looks to be a tribute piece to some of the greats in the street art scene like Barry McGee, Os Gemeos, Kaws, Futura, and Shepard Fairey. Other walls you should take notice of include pieces from Chris Stain (Baltimore), Kid Zoom & Reka (Australia), Tellas & Moneyless (Poland), Jon Burgerman (Canada), Phlegm (UK), Jaz (Baltimore), Otto […]

A new project coordinated by Gaia in his home city has kicked off recently with this mural from the young street artist. Open Walls Baltimore is a public art initiative in a neighborhood burdened by 150 vacant homes and hopes to bridge the gaps between the artist community that calls Station North home and the residents of Greenmount West. A line up of Interesni Kazki, Maya Hayuk, Swoon, Specter, Doodles, Jaz, Ever, Freddy Sam, Mata Ruda, Nanook, MOMO, Vhils, Sten and Lex, Chris Stain, Jetsonorama, […]

Openings: “Street Art Saved My Life” @ C.A.V.E. Gallery

Last Friday, the C.A.V.E. Gallery and Brooklyn Street Art in collaboration with Thinkspace presented an exhibit titled 39 Stories: Street Art Saved My Life. The exhibit featured 39 different artists including the likes of Anthony Lister, Futura, Judith Supine, Know Hope, Faile, and Swoon to many other names familiar to AM readers. The show was meant to display the current street art scene that’s taking place across New York and the surrounding areas. Although not all artists were born in that region, all of them […]

Openings: Vandalog & M.A.N.Y – “Up Close & Personal”

AM recently attended a group exhibition (previewed) held by Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. in New York. The show Up Close & Personal was unique in the sense that it was not held outdoors or in a gallery, but in an actual apartment on the Upper West Side. The show was limited to viewing for less than a week, but less is more as art fans were escorted in small groups for an intimate viewing session of small works by Aiko, Chris Stain, Elbowtoe, Gaia, How & […]

Previews: Vandalog & M.A.N.Y – “Up Close & Personal”

Vandalog and M.A.N.Y. have teamed up to create a unique group show that will be in New York for a limited time starting today and running through the weekend. Entitled Up Close and Personal, this exhibition will showcase the works from artists who have created large mural works in the past by taking them indoors into the intimate setting of a residential apartment in Manhattan. Works no smaller than a metro card and no bigger than 30 x 30 inches have been created by artists […]

Preview: “Martha Cooper : Remix” @ Carmichael Gallery

We have a big art night tonight in Culver City and one of the trifecta of shows is opening at the Carmichael Gallery. Seminal street art and graf photographer, Martha Cooper (interviewed), will be in town with an exhibition (Martha Cooper : Remix) she curated where artists were asked to reinterpret one of her many famous photographs.  Martha was gracious enough to send over several snaps she took of artists holding their piece side by side with their source of inspiration. Take a full look […]

Openings: Electric Windows

Is that Ron English’s Ronald McDonald and camouflaged deer peeking out at us?  It’s just some of the sights seen at this year’s “Electric Windows”, an annual art and music festival that has already going on three years.  This year’s rendition officially opened last weekend in Beacon, New York with about 30 artists travelling to the small town about an hour north of New York City to do some live painting as well as hopefully bring some life and a fresh look some targeted buildings […]

Openings: Rooms @ Scion Space

On Saturday night, AM attended the opening of “Rooms” at Scion Space (previewed). The show, curated by Roger Gastman, certainly brought us back to the old school days of youth.  A wide array of nostalgic goodness such as Laser Tag, VHS lined living rooms, Michael Jordan & Dream Team posters, elementary school desks, bus stops, gothic throwbacks and even an outdoor street/play area were included.  There was literally something for everyone to reminisce on.  The artists: Adam Wallacavage, Bill Daniel, Chris Stain, Dan Monick & […]
