Preview: “La Luz De Jesus 25″ Part I

How many artists does a gallery owner represent, show, and deal with in the course of 25 years? The answer is a lot – so much so that the anniversary show for Billy Shire and his landmark La Luz De Jesus gallery needs to split the lineup between two separate exhibitions, one month apart. There is certainly much to celebrate as the gallery was an avenue for many of the shining stars of the Low Brow Movement to display their work back in a time [...]

Releases: “HEROES & VILLAINS”

According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Not only are the resulting portraits technically sound, the duo were able to capture the essence of each artist – for example, Shawn Barber (featured) and his tattoos, Tiffany Bozic and her bird, or SHAG (interviewed) in a modern retro setting. We’ve seen the publication in person and were quite [...]

Openings: Clayton Brothers – “Inside Out” @ Pasadena Museum of California Art

A couple of nights ago, we headed over to the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) to check out two show openings.  One was Street Cred (covered), and the other was Inside Out from the renowned Clayton Brothers (featured). If you remember, last September, Christian and Rob presented an exhibition with the same title at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA), so this is the second showing for this retrospective body of work. We didn’t have the opportunity to attend that show in Wisconsin, but [...]
