Alice Gallery in Brussels recently opened a big group show entitled Just Before Brazil. The Portuguese coastal town of Cascais near Lisbon recently saw the opening of Europe’s first hotel-managed arts district inside a recently renovated Renaissance-era fortress, run by Pousada de Cascais Cidadela Historic Hotel. Their “Arts District” project invited six artists for a year-long residency, during which their studios as well as five new art galleries will be open to public. Openings: Group Show – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Project

Western Project kicked opened the doors on Jan 16, 2010 at their new location in Culver City on La Cienega with a group show (previewed) featuring spectacular artwork by Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) and artists Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young which runs until Feb. 20. Preview: Mark Dean Veca – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Projects

After an impressive showing at Jonathan LeVine in September, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) starts off 2010 with a group show. “Cherry Pie” opens on January 16th at Western Project in their new location with Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young along with MDV adding to his pop iconography library with his rendition of Mr. Monopoly.
