Christie’s and Phillips de Pury have proven to have strong works available at their forthcoming auctions (check out our previews here and here). AM now examines Sotheby’s Contemporary Evening and Day Art Sales (February 10 – 11), which contain great pieces by some of our favorite artists, such as Feng Zhengjie, Yoshitomo Nara and Andy Warhol (above). We are happy to report that several of our favorite lots, included those by Frank Auerbach, Lucio Fontana and Andy Warhol, performed well, either within or above estimate, in the evening sale [...]

Openings: Group Show – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Project

Western Project kicked opened the doors on Jan 16, 2010 at their new location in Culver City on La Cienega with a group show (previewed) featuring spectacular artwork by Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) and artists Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young which runs until Feb. 20. The centerpiece of the show was a intricate signature orange large painting by MDV of the popular Mr. Monopoly character, who we all know and love from our childhood board game days. More [...]

Preview: Mark Dean Veca – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Projects

After an impressive showing at Jonathan LeVine in September, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) starts off 2010 with a group show. “Cherry Pie” opens on January 16th at Western Project in their new location with Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young along with MDV adding to his pop iconography library with his rendition of Mr. Monopoly.
