Detroit Beautification Project

A project that was first hinted at here appears to have come to fruition in the Motor City. We have already shared works from Sever and Reyes for the Detroit Beautification Project, but now we have a closer look at the multitude of artists (many of them MSK affiliated) and the murals they painted centered mostly in Hamtramck. Openings: Dabs Myla – “Break Night Lovers” @ Known Gallery

Last weekend, deep in the heart of Los Angeles, the Known Gallery unveiled the latest work from the locally based duo, Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers featured drawings, paintings, art objects, and a whimsical installation mimicking the inside of house complete with a fridge, painted stove, TV, table, chairs, and more. Tomorrow night (May 5th), Known Gallery will be the place to be if you are interested in seeing the newest solo show from Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers will feature the duo from down under’s cartoonish stylings executed in the form of new paintings, drawings, and installations. Over the weekend, the Affordable Art Fair opened Los Angeles including a booth for one of the galleries exhibiting work – Thinkspace Gallery. The Culver City showspace presented work from a talented core of artists which they have worked with in the past and will certainly continue to do so in the future including Dabs Myla, Brian Viveros, Matt Doust, Linnea Strid, David Cooley, and Audrey Kawasaki to name a few. Late last year during the holidays, we brought you pictures from Dabs Myla‘s latest mural which took place in the Culver City of Los Angeles (covered). It turns out the project (set up through Branded Arts and Thinkspace Gallery) has a story behind it that could be just as interesting as the aesthetic value of the mural itself. Yesterday, we brought you a look at the progress from Dabs Myla’s latest mural in Los Angeles. This Branded Arts project once again shows off their impeccable technique as well as their ability to work on a large scale project with ease utilizing their unique style. The dynamic duo known as Dabs Myla have been hitting the mural scene as of late. Not too long ago, we saw them put up some great work during Art Basel Week Miami. Now, they are back in Los Angeles and creating what looks to be another impressive mural. Street activity has definitely been strong during Art Basel Week Miami, and this is one of the things that sets it apart from the more prestigious original fair in Switzerland. While walking through the myriad of streets where murals were being put up, we passed by Aussie couple Dabs Myla as they painted this piece. AM was pleased to see a visit this week from NY based artist Olek (featured), we don’t often get to see a crocheted cab on the streets of London! Great fun and very impressive.
