Dave Cooper x Johnny Ryan – “Pig Goat Banana Cricket” TV Series

The Canada-based Dave Cooper, who we last saw during a New York solo show, recently made the trip to Los Angeles to do more work on his recently green-lighted animated series with Nickelodeon. Pig Goat Banana Cricket was developed with Cooper in charge of art direction with Johnny Ryan writing for the children’s network, who have ordered 26 episodes to begin with. As you can see from the lush backgrounds and character design (better seen in pilot video below – note cricket exchanged for mantis), Cooper’s influence is definitely evident. […]
Cotton Candy Machine Tiny Trifecta AM 50

Openings: “Tiny Trifecta” @ Cotton Candy Machine

This past weekend, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine hosted their second annual “tiny” art showcase entitled Tiny Trifecta. As we mentioned in our preview, artists this year upped the ante as each created three pieces of original artwork for fans who may not have the opportunity to purchase their larger scale works. All you needed was a $100 and the patience to queue up for a chance at your favorite artwork. Tara McPherson curated strong and diverse lineup which included names such as James Jean, Audrey […]

Openings: Dave Cooper – “Mangle” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Last Saturday night, Dave Cooper opened his solo alongside Jeff Soto in NY at Jonathan LeVine’s Gallery in Chelsea. As usual, Cooper produced a fascinating body of work that would interest any BBW lover with lush and strangely compelling paintings of billowy and fleshy women frolicking in and out of disturbing scenarios. The subjects appear to be contortionists as well to the highest degree, populating a vast world filled with vaguely sensual and uncomfortable scenarios. Perhaps the subject matter is best explained in the artists […]

Something exciting is coming to the UK in the month of May in the shape of “Art from the New World”, an exhibition organized and curated by Los Angeles based Corey Helford Gallery. The exhibit will show a snapshot of the blossoming American new contemporary scene that we at AM love so much and is to be held at the location of last year’s Banksy versus the Bristol Museum – The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. If you’re in the UK, don’t miss this chance […]

Dave Cooper x Danko Jones

Danko Jones – King Of Magazines from Bad Taste Records on Vimeo. Baby Tattooville alum Dave Cooper and animator Nick Cross recently teamed with Canadian rock band Danko Jones to produce a music video for their song “King of Magazines.” Oddly, this is exactly the sort of video you would expect if classic Cooper characters were animated – a bouncy lush world filled with his voluptuous and lascivious women strangely pulsating to the beat. Make sure you check out this interview by Hi-Fructose about the […]
