Streets: Eine – LA Weekly Building

UK-based street artist Ben Eine, who recently showed in SF (covered), made the trip down to Southern California soon after as we saw him at both the D*Face opening and of course participating at the Art in the Streets exhibition (covered) at the MOCA. Just like in San Francisco, he found time to work on some street typographical magic, this time on the LA Weekly building. More images of the crossword themed piece after the jump…

Openings: Steal from Work – ‘Flogging a Dead Horse’ @ The Showroom, Bristol

Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. The production entitled Flogging a Dead Horse promised to be “a group show featuring the best (and worst) urban street contemporary artists in the world” and at first glance they really were true to their words. People wandering in were impressed by original canvases by the likes of Banksy, Hirst, [...]

Streets: Elbow-Toe in London

Brian Adam Douglas, a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) was in London a couple of weeks ago for his Due Date solo exhibition (covered), currently on at Black Rat Projects. While in town, he made sure to put up a few street pieces. AM caught up with the artist as he installed a black-and-white version of his linocut print Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? on Rivington Street in Shoreditch — opposite the landmark SCARY mural by Eine. We were able to witness the joys of trying to [...]

Streets: Eine in SF (Part II)

Who rocks the hardest? Apparently, Ben Eine does, among other things as he’s painting up San Fran in conjunction with his show that opened last weekend (covered). Not only was he working on his signature shutter typography all around town, he’s also was getting up select phrases.  Take a look at the video and more pics from Skate Legs Magazine after the jump…

Openings: Eine – “GREATEST” @ White Walls

Street typographical poet Ben Eine opened his show at White Walls on Saturday in SF.  AM stopped by to check out the work of the busy artist, as he has also been on the streets painting his signature letters throughout the city. We think the title of the show “GREATEST” was very appropriate after seeing most of the words and phrases chosen by the UK-based artist for this body of work. More opening photos after the jump…

Openings: Moniker Art Fair 2010

One of the main reasons AM traveled to London this year was to catch the premiere of the Moniker Art Fair. The opening night was packed from the moment the doors were lifted with what seemed to be everyone we knew in the scene in attendance. The inaugural fair focused on bringing attention to the rising urban art movement and included galleries such as New Image Art, Carmichael Gallery, Black Rat Projects, CampBarbossa, Galleria Patricia Armocida and Anonymous Gallery. Another nice addition was the artist booths that featured the likes [...]

Streets: Eine (South Africa)

The last time we hung out with Ben Eine was when he was painting the “Alphabet Street” in London. He has since made headlines by entering Obama’s collection and now appears to have traveled to Cape Town to do some work. Take a look this nice project as he painted over some large vats with “FAIR SPONTANEOUS PASSIONATE CHANGE THE WORLD AND CELEBRATE.” Take a look at a couple of in progress shots as well as more shutters from South Africa after the jump…

Ben Eine’s Strangest Week

And so, a very unique and a very strange week for Ben Eine has come to an end. Unless your head has been in the sand, you’ll have seen that his painting “21st Century City” was gifted to Barack Obama by British Prime Minister David Cameron, and as a result, Eine has been all over the news – TV, radio and the papers – even some of AM’s own pictures appeared in The Guardian amongst a variety of other places. A multitude of articles appeared [...]
