Openings: “Color or Colour” @ Charles Bank Gallery

This past month, we brought you the preview of Color or Colour at Charles Bank Gallery in NYC. This well composed group exhibition included the works of London based Ben Eine among others. Eine is best  known for his large-scale outdoor typography inspired works with a color theory combination that have Pantone designers batting their eyelashes. Traveling relentlessly over the past couple years, Eine settled into New York City, just long enough to bring the house with his other artists in the show, most notably Lee Baker. […]

Openings: “Tonight We Won’t Be Bored” – 10 Years Of V1 Gallery

With all the great art that is scattered all over the world, it’s not often that you can see works from prominent artists in your home town – and even less likely you see them side by side. That is exactly the scenario we have in Copenhagen at the V1 Gallery as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary with a massive group show entitled Tonight We Won’t Be Bored. Take for example the wall above that has pieces from Todd James, Futura, DearRainDrop, and Kenny Scharf that […]

Preview / Setup: Ben Eine – “Color by Colour” Group Show @ Charles Banks Gallery

We first got acquainted with Ben Eine in the 2005 holiday tradition known as Santa’s Ghetto. Since then Ben has traveled the globe putting his clever alphabetical color combinations up for the whole world to see (fans include Prime Minister Cameron who sent over a painting to the Obama’s, welcoming the first family into the White House). Most recently Ben has been working like an elf during Christmas gearing up for the group show he’s participating in at the Charles Banks Gallery. He has been linked up with an […]

Ben Eine – “TO EXPRESS” Installation @ Onethirty3

The Onethirty3 project space in Newcastle ended their memorable two year run with a new installation from Ben Eine entitled TO EXPRESS. Artists who have made their mark at the location included Herakut, Paul Insect, Sickboy, Gaia, Titifreak (covered), INCH, Amy Dover, and Hush (covered) who organized the entire project. Guess all good things eventually come to an end. Photo credit: David Bilbrough / Dan Graham. Discuss Eine here.

Preview: “Space//Form” Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

As the opening of the Space//Form group exhibition draws ever nearer, and following on from our studio view, AM brings you a glimpse of some of the work in this huge show. Over 100 artists are participating in the exhibit, which opens on 6th September at Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The artists were each given the same brief and the same materials to work with and asked to explore and represent their interpretation of space and form within either the natural or built environment. Each piece of […]

Update: Space//Form Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

One of the most interesting things about curating a group exhibition of over 100 artists is getting to see behind the scenes as the artists develop their work for the show (Chloe Early seen above). Updates come constantly as the participants share their excitement about creating work for the show, and getting to see  some of the creative process that goes into the work is always a pleasure. Space//Form opens in just a couple of weeks time now in Portland at Breeze Block Gallery and here […]

Rewind: Aug 13 – 19

This week’s video Rewind looks further into the world of Allison Schulnik as Beautiful/Decay and Visual Creatures pay a visit to the talented sculptor, painter, and animator’s studio. Schulnik, whose animation Mound we featured last December, talks about living and working in Los Angeles, how the different aspects of her work inform each other, the sad and fantastical creatures that fill her artistic vision, and more. Other videos worth watching include: Jack and Dinos Chapman’s installation in Grundy Art Gallery’s Adventureland Golf exhibition features Hitler. Artnet […]

Upcoming: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. Curator, Sven Davis, has worked in architecture for over 20 years, so the thematic center of the exhibition is close to his heart as Space//Form centers around notions of the architectural landscape. Each of the […]

Openings: “Détournement: Signs of the Times” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Earlier this week, Jonathan Levine Gallery opened a unique group exhibition entitled Détournement: Signs of the Times. Curated by esteemed pop culture critic and senior editor of Paper magazine, Carlo McCormick, this collection of signed works represents “detournement” and the redirection brought upon intentionally by artists and their artwork in order to go against conventional flow. Included were a diverse list of artists from different genres and age groups like AIKO, Dan Witz, David Wojnarowicz (estate), Dylan Egon, EINE, Ilona Granet, Jack Pierson, John Law (Jack Napier), […]
