Our friends over at VNA magazine are celebrating their 10 year anniversary with issue #34 of their quality publication featuring the original queen of graffiti and street art documentation, the legendary Martha Cooper, as a cover artist, and with an in depth interview covering her entire career to date. This issue once also again brings us up and close with the French street art legend that is Invader, this time describing some of the most important points in his artistic history for their Diggin in the Crates feature. Speaking of legends, the […]

Streets: Invader (Toulouse)

Last week, Invader started his first wave of public art in the city of Toulouse with some of his iconic tile-based works. Choosing an appropriate color for his video game-based characters, the French artist glued up ten different pieces in the “Pink City,” known for the pinkish terracotta bricks used in its architecture. Toulouse is the 66th city to be “invaded” by the street artist – you can see more in the photos below… Discuss Invader here.

Streets: World Roundup (Nov 1 – Nov 22)

It’s been quite a while since our last Streets: World Roundup feature, so here are some public works that you may have missed in the last several months. Leading things off is a piece by Os Gemeos at an undisclosed location that highlights the plight of the people affected by the catastrophic dam collapse that resulted in toxic mud flow destroying Bento Rodrigues region in Brazil due to the negligence of mining company Mariana MG. Other murals the caught our eye of late include Invader (Jersey City), […]

Streets: Invader (Ravenna)

After a summer series of works in his hometown of Paris, Invader has moved on to Italy to put up his next batch of work. The central Italian city of Ravenna is known for its superb Byzantine mosaics, so it is only natural that the French artist has chosen to increase his street activity there. This second invasion featured 15 new pieces with inspiration that ranged from the architecture, culture, and sights of the area. Discuss Invader here.

Streets: Invader (Paris) – Summer 2015

After an update in July, on top of that now a recap what Invader has been up in his home city of Paris during the summer months. Taking advantage of the warmer months, with the “streets are empty, the inhabitants have left and the nights are mild,” the French artist got up over 30 new pieces in the capital city. Tackling a wide range of imagery, the distinctive tiled works took the form of Smurfs, Bugs Bunny, smiley-faced Napoleon, and of course video game inspirations […]

Streets: Invader (Paris)

Last time we heard from Invader, he was in Hong Kong opening a massive show (covered) back in May of this year. Recently, the French artist has returned back to his home base of Paris to continue propagating his imagery on the streets. Taking from a diverse set of pop culture and video game imagery, he always delights his fans with new surprises like the Cheshire Cat (seen above) as well as some classic pieces. Showing: Invader – “Wipe Out” @ The Qube (Hong Kong)

Showing through the end of this weekend is a show entitled Wipe Out from Invader in Hong Kong at The Qube, PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). The title of the exhibition is in reference to the extremely efficient and quick removal of 90% of his famed tiled creations from the streets of the metropolis by cleaning crews after getting up earlier there this year (here & here). Part of the work on display is a re-creation of these pieces and the photo documentation of their brief existence in the wild. […]

Upcoming: Invader – “Wipe Out” @ The Qube (Hong Kong)

After some advance street activity (covered here & here) in Hong Kong earlier this year, Invader will be returning with a show opening on May 2nd at The Qube, PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). Entitled Wipe Out, the exhibition (presented by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Foundation [HOCA] & Le French May) will be the French mosaic specialist’s first solo in HK. The title of the show comes from the famed street artist’s experience with his work earlier this year in HK where 90% of his pieces were removed by cleaning […]

Invader Continues Space Invasion

After taking his own work up to space and living up to his moniker, Invader has recently expanded his activities to spread his work further along similar lines. Not only has the French street artist put up his signature tiled mosaics up at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne and Euro Space Center in Belgium (above), but it also looks like one of his pieces has made it up with an astronaut to the International Space Station.
