Even though his epic exhibition Interruption at the GCAC (covered) is still showing, Joe Sorren (featured) is already back to work doing what he does best – painting. This new commission piece that he recently finished is a piece for a friend and fellow band member. We look forward to seeing what is in store for Joe in 2011 including an animation project and a show in Italy at Dorothy Circus in October. Discuss Joe Sorren here.

It was a star-studded affair last night in Southern California, as preeminent members of the ever-evolving New Contemporary movement, along with many collectors and casual observes alike, came out to the Grand Central Art Center to support Joe Sorren’s (featured) first comprehensive retrospective, Interruption (previewed). Last year, AM had the pleasure of visiting artist Joe Sorren at his studio in Flagstaff – you can check out our pictures here. Whilst we were there, Joe gave us a tour of the town, and in particular an insider’s look at his mural, titled “The Veridic Gardens of Effie Leroux”, in downtown Heritage Square. Rome’s Dorothy Circus Gallery and New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery have joined forces to bring together some of the biggest names in the new contemporary scene for a museum exhibition in Italy entitled “Pop Surrealism”.
