Openings: “Street Art Saved My Life” @ C.A.V.E. Gallery

Last Friday, the C.A.V.E. Gallery and Brooklyn Street Art in collaboration with Thinkspace presented an exhibit titled 39 Stories: Street Art Saved My Life. The exhibit featured 39 different artists including the likes of Anthony Lister, Futura, Judith Supine, Know Hope, Faile, and Swoon to many other names familiar to AM readers. The show was meant to display the current street art scene that’s taking place across New York and the surrounding areas. Although not all artists were born in that region, all of them [...]

Openings: Judith Supine – “Ladyboy” @ New Image Art

“A crazy fun and visually arresting experience” – that’s our take on the opening night of New York-based Judith Supine. As previewed, the exhibition at New Image Art entitled Ladyboy touches on an intimate encounter that the artist once had in Bangkok. Using his signature hypercolor and collaging techniques, Judith transformed the entire space (from floor to ceiling, covering every inch) into something resembling a corner of his unique mind. The gallery was packed from opening moments as fans and a parade of “ladyboys” came [...]

Previews: Judith Supine – ‘Ladyboy’ @ New Image Art

Ladyboy, a solo exhibition by collagist Judith Supine, opens at New Image Art in West Hollywood on Wednesday, 13 April. It’s already been three years since the 2008 Dirt Mansion installation — the artist’s first solo effort at English Kills Art Gallery in Brooklyn. Wooster Collective described the show as their favourite of the year and AM can separately confirm that, quite frankly, it rocked. With Ladyboy, we’ve been promised another real spectacle including giant woodcut sculptures measuring up to 14-feet high. It sounds like [...]

Streets: Judith Supine (Los Angeles)

It looks like Judith Supine was recently in Los Angeles for a visit. While in town, he took time to throw up several of his signature “green skinned” collaged pieces including one that was put in New Image Art’s show (covered) in Miami for Art Basel Week. Thankfully, his buddy Skullphone had time to shoot some pics before the rains started. More after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10: New Image Art

Last night, New Image Art took over South Beach’s Cafeina for a group exhibition (teased) that should prove to be one of the more compelling events of Art Basel Week. As is often the case, Sao Paulo street art sensations Osgemeos stole the show with their heartfelt interpretations of their Brazilian countrymen, always dressed to impress in colorfully patterned attire. A selection of giant canvases, executed flawlessly with spray cans and incorporating the playful imagery and vibrant palette that has become patented by the Twins, [...]
