Previews: Kelsey Brookes – “Caped Creatures” @ Circleculture Gallery (Berlin)

Last night, the PRISM gallery on the Sunset Strip hosted a group exhibition “Come As You Are” in conjunction with New Image Art and RVCA. Featuring an eclectic collection of artists across all genres, the show included Susanne Melanie Berry, Kelsey Brookes (featured), Richard Colman (interviewed), Dennis Hopper, Ryan McGinness, Cleon Peterson, Clare Rojas, Craig Stecyk, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton and a video by Cheryl Dunn of Dash Snow as well as the three artists below. Preview: “Come As You Are” @ Prism Gallery

Looks like Prism Gallery is about to drop some bombs on LA. This Thursday, they are hosting the opening (7-9pm) of “Come As You Are”. This group show has a line-up of heavy hitters like Os Gemeos, Kelsey Brookes, Clare Rojas, Clayton Brothers, Cleon Peterson, Susanne Melanie Berry, Richard Colman, Cheryl Dunn, Dennis Hopper, Craig Steeyk, Deanna Templeton and Ed Templeton. Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Total Eclipse” Group Show @ New Image Art

Earlier this month, San Diego based artist Kelsey Brookes was part of a three-person show at New Image Art entitled “New Eclipse”. For this show, not only did Brookes include his colorful and abstract “explosion” paintings, he also added a twist – spinners and puzzles. The spinners were paintings that spun in place while hung on the wall (video here) and the puzzles were pieces that included interchangeable parts so that collectors could rearrange them at will. Openings: Kelsey Brookes – “Bigger, Brighter, Bolder” @ Quint Contemporary Art

Last Friday, Kelsey Brookes opened his show “Bigger, Brighter, Bolder” in San Diego at Quint Contemporary Art. Based on the studio shots, we already had high expectations for this important show from the young artist. Kelsey certainly delivered on all the hype with a stunning new body of work, and yes, nothing beats seeing the paintings up on the actual walls. Artist friendly clothing company RVCA recently opened their “Whammy! “show (teased) at their retail space/gallery VASF in San Francisco.  Focusing entirely on domestic talent, “Whammy!” features the artwork of such stateside luminaries as Jeff Soto (interviewed), Dave Kinsey, Anthony Lister (interviewed), Kelsey Brookes and Tiffany Bozic, to name a few.  More photos after the jump.

Teaser: Whammy! The Art Show @ VASF

Whammy! The Art Show opens next Thursday, July 9th with some pretty good artists in the lineup.  How does Dave Kinsey (above), Anthony Lister (interviewed), Tiffany Bozic, Jeff Soto, John Dwyer, Robert Hardgrave, Mel Kadel, Jay Howell, and Kelsey Brookes sound?  The exhibition will be held at VASF, the RVCA retail flagship on Haight and Ashbuy in San Francisco.

Outsiders Selection @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

Another great group show is underway at Lazarides (Newcastle Location). This time, the exhibition that opened last weekend is entitled “Outsiders Selection” and features original paintings, prints and sculpture from Faile, Antony Micallef, Blu, Ian Francis, David Choe, JR, Conor Harrington, Damien Hirst, Paul Insect, Invader, Polly Morgan, Kelsey Brookes, Vhils, Jonathan Yeo, Herbert Baglione, Zevs, and more.  Although the art was mainly older work, there were many standout pieces including this stunning “Flying Copper” (seen above) by Banksy suspended in glass/plexi.  Many more pics [...]
