The image chosen was cropped from the Houston-based artist’s Coalition II painting (seen below), some of his instantly recognizable imagery of children strolling through urban environments with their animal companions. Yesterday, we stopped by on the last day of the soldout Kevin Peterson show at Thinkspace Gallery to check out his new paintings. Collectively entitled Remnants, the fresh collection of works feature the Houston-based artist’s children and animal portraiture in urban settings. Utilizing these unlikely subjects with such stark backgrounds often featuring graffiti, abandoned structures, and overgrowth provides a contrast that is recognizable in all of his work. Some of the pieces had three-dimensional elements included (like metal grills) that fit in seamlessly into the […]
Tonight in Los Angeles, Kevin Peterson will be opening his second solo show (see 2012) with Thinkspace Gallery bringing with him a new body of work entitled Remnants. The Houston-based artist’s portraiture sets the innocence of his subjects and their animal companions against oftentimes desolate urban backgrounds. This contrasting overlap of two different worlds places his characters in a narrative where their courage and strength can shine through.
