Recap: Kevin Peterson – “Remnants” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Yesterday, we stopped by on the last day of the soldout Kevin Peterson show at Thinkspace Gallery to check out his new paintings. Collectively entitled Remnants, the fresh collection of works feature the Houston-based artist’s children and animal portraiture in urban settings. Utilizing these unlikely subjects with such stark backgrounds often featuring graffiti, abandoned structures, and overgrowth provides a contrast that is recognizable in all of his work. Some of the pieces had three-dimensional elements included (like metal grills) that fit in seamlessly into the […]

Previews: Kevin Peterson – “Remnants” @ Thinkspace

Tonight in Los Angeles, Kevin Peterson will be opening his second solo show (see 2012) with Thinkspace Gallery bringing with him a new body of work entitled Remnants. The Houston-based artist’s portraiture sets the innocence of his subjects and their animal companions against oftentimes desolate urban backgrounds. This contrasting overlap of two different worlds places his characters in a narrative where their courage and strength can shine through. Openings: Kevin Peterson – “Amended” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last week at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, Kevin Peterson filled the main space (also see Jacub Gagnon’s work in the project room) with his new show entitled Amended. The paintings he chose to put on display featured his signature form of portraiture with children and animals juxtaposed with backgrounds full of graffiti and urban scenery (some of which had a retro feel to them). Rounding out the show was a sculptural piece based on a defaced playground spring toy that was mirrored with an accompanying painting. […]

Previews: Kevin Peterson & Jacub Gagnon – “Amended” & “More Human Than Human” @ Thinkspace

Tonight at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, there will be showing from Kevin Peterson and Jacub Gagnon (interviewed). For his part, Peterson has brought a set of new works with him entitled Amended, all featuring his portraits of innocence, oftentime represented by children, superimposed over gritty of urban landscapes. For this exhibition, some of his works have an almost retro feel to them with old school adverts and logos inserted to add an extra layer to his narrative. Alongside him, More Human Than Human will fill the project room with Jacub Gagnon’s (interviewed) clever […]
