Last week, the Soze Gallery was proud to present the work and first L.A. exhibition from Jaybo Monk. Titled Silent/Listen, this show unveiled a number of paintings in which the artist fused an interesting style of portraiture, collage, and linear perspective. This Saturday night in Culver City, Amy Sol (interviewed) will be showing again (see 2010) at the Corey Helford Gallery with a new body of work entitled Numina. The delicate and intricate works from Las Vegas-based artist will be on display where dedicated fans will notice her playing with the perspectives in her composition with an increasing focus on the human characters as well as some experimentation with darker backgrounds in some of the pieces. AM was on hand a couple days ago as explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang started his preparations for his upcoming exhibition at the Los Angeles MOCA set to open on April 8th. Opening tonight at Martha Otero Gallery is a new show by Delia Brown. Entitled Last Exit: Punta Junta, this exhibition is a continuation of her Guerilla Lounging Project where parties are hosted in the luxuriously pimped out playgrounds of the upper class. The difference is that the ones depicted living it up are those of the middle and lower classes. Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part V

During the past week, JR (featured) has been hitting the L.A. streets with his signature photographs while at the same time continuing his “Wrinkles In The City” campaign (covered here, here, here and here). Organized by Daniel Salin, this recent JR tour ended with three murals put up by the French photographer around different parts of the Downtown Los Angeles district. Tonight in Los Angeles at Taschen, fans of Mark Ryden will have a chance to check out his newest book in person as well as get it signed by the man himself. The impressive publication, Pinxit, is a comprehensive 366 page survey of Ryden’s 20 year career and is currently available as the Collector’s Edition of 1,000 ($1000).
