Check out a detailed look at this […]

Preview: Candice Tripp – “Petit Mal” @ Black Rat Gallery

Opening this Friday (July 26th), Petit Mal is a solo show from Candice Tripp (interviewed) at Black Rat Projects, with whom she released a print earlier this year if you remember. We’ve been looking for a large body of work from the UK-based painter ever since her show at Joshua Liner, and the new work does not disappoint. Thematically based on her thoughts of the “petit mal” seizures sometimes seen in children, her paintings are indeed what one may imagine could be seen during the brief interruptions of consciousness […]

Openings: Fulvio di Piazza – “Ashes to Ashes” @ Jonathan Levine

Last month, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York hosted an opening reception for surreal Sicilian artist Fulvio di Piazza (a previous subject of our Art Focus). Ashes to Ashes is the painter’s powerful debut show in the United States featuring his riveting landscapes of floating islands in a world covered in ash and fire. As an added layer in many of the works, the land masses depicted form their own images such as faces and creatures. For those interested in checking it out in more detail, the show runs […]

Openings: “Unnatural – Natural History” @ Royal West of England Academy

Curated by Coates and Scarry, the  exhibition entitled Unnatural-Natural History recently launched at the Royal West of England Academy with many of the participating artists present at the opening. The show consisted of a series of ink drawings, sculptures, paintings and an installation involving a temporary wall, with San Francisco being the central theme to express his love the city he lives in. Last weekend, the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles played host to L.A. Sous-Real, the latest solo showing from artist Laurie Lipton (interviewed). Featuring her incredibly detailed graphite works, the works for this show are a personal testimony to her experiences of change and a new environment. She states:  “I am in the peculiar position of being a foreigner in my own country. I just moved back to the USA after living in Europe for over 36 years (more than half my life). This show is […]

Openings: Kris Kuksi for “Go West” @ Mark Moore Gallery

Just this past Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles hosted Go West, a joint show between Kris Kuksi and David Ellis curated by Joshua Liner that is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York last May where the two galleries roles were flip-flopped. These time-intensive gothic creations are incredibly detailed and for those of you in the LA-area that have never seen one before in person, here […]
