Showing: Revok – “SYSTEMS” @ Library Street Collective (Los Angeles)

Only showing through the end of the week is SYSTEMS from Revok at Library Street Collective’s new permanent location in Los Angeles. The collection of 17 new works see the infamous graffiti writer move in a more abstract direction while still maintaining an intriguing conceptual connection with his time on the streets. The exhibition marks a turn away from the increasingly complex wood assemblages he has become known for while heading towards a new freedom of working on canvas. Refreshing old concepts from his artistic roots, he has created […]

Previews: Revok – “SYSTEMS” @ Library Street Collective (Los Angeles)

After a popup show (covered) with Library Street Collective last year in Los Angeles (surprisingly his first solo in the city where he made his name), Revok will be returning for another exhibition at a more permanent location for the gallery in LA on October 22nd. Entitled SYSTEMS, the new body of work will see the graffiti artist continue to push the boundaries of his work with more conceptual and experimental pieces while staying true to his artistic roots. An example of this utilizes one of […]

Openings: “Mint Julep” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

As part of their pre-summer program, Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan recently opened a group show titled Mint Julep. Featuring works by Maya Hayuk,  Cleon Peterson, Revok, and  Francesco Igory Deiana, the exhibition opened on May 18th and will stay on view through July 22nd. The idea of this show was to mix artists and their diverse styles into a fresh, attractive installation, similar to a Mint Julep cocktail, made by mixing bourbon, ice, sugar and mint into a refreshing drink. Viewers got to see Hayuk’s colorful, layered weave paintings that balance between tradition, psychedelic, strict […]

Openings: “Major Work” @ Chandran Gallery

Earlier this month, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco opened a show curated by Andrew Schoultz entitled Major Work. The locally-based artist carefully selected a roster of participants that included himself, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Kelsey Brookes, Revok, James Marshall (Dalek), Sam Friedman, Eric Yahnker, Mark Dean Veca, Saber, Hilary Pecis, Tim Biskup, Eric White, and Allison Schulnik. The premise behind the exhibition was for each artist to contribute a large-scale piece that they felt capture the essence of their work. The resulting show was quite stunning, as evidenced by […]

Showing: Revok – “Revok” @ Ruttkowski;68

With his most recent solo show titled Revok, Jason Williams aka REVOK introduced his latest concepts and works at Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany. Opened on August 14th, the show will stay on view until September 27th. The title of the shows refers to the concept of identity that he has been exploring since 1990, when he adopted the name as his alias. REVOK was only a tag or a pseudonym when he started out as a graffiti artist, but later on it became a frame within which he can define himself without social constraints. […]

Upcoming: Revok – “Revok” @ Ruttkowski;68

On August 14th, Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany will be welcoming back Jason William aka REVOK for another solo. The eponymously named exhibition continues the line of work seen in his Los Angeles show earlier this year (covered), and will follow the graffiti artist as he “goes beyond the self to examine perceptions of consciousness and unconsciousness.” This continues to be expressed in the form of increasingly complex assemblages formed from precisely cut pieces of wood that draw their influences from op-art, traditional folk pattern, and optical illusion elements. Discuss Revok […]

Opening: Revok – “Los Angeles” @ Library Street Collective (LA)

Last week, fans of Revok witnessed the opening of his first solo show in LA at a popup space hosted by the Library Street Collective. Entitled simply and appropriately Los Angeles, the new body of work marked a homecoming for the local graffiti legend and consisted of a series of assemblage works which proved to be created with a further refinement in his technique and vision. Hand cutting wood pieces and putting together complex geometric shapes, the composition is then painted over in patterns that draw their influences from […]

Previews: Revok – “Los Angeles” @ Library Street Collective (LA)

On Friday, April 10th Jason Williams aka Revok will be opening his first solo in Los Angeles, unveiling an entirely new body of work. Titled simply Los Angeles, the exhibition will run from April 10th – April 19th at Library Street Collective’s temporary gallery space in downtown (1242 Palmetto Street). For this exhibition, the artist created a whole new series of complex assemblage works in the style he has developed over the last couple of years. After 25 years of building up a reputation as a prolific and influential […]
