Upcoming: Pose & Revok – “Uphill Both Ways” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

This Saturday night (June 29th), the Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be presenting a two-person exhibition (cureated by Roger Gastman) from Pose and Revok. Uphill Both Ways will bring together the two MSK-affiliated graffiti artists in a show inspired by “legal persecution and loss, as well as general themes of the human struggle.” The Detroit-based Revok will bring with him his abstract geometric panels (seen above), formed from found materials sourced from abandoned structures in the city while the Chicago-based Pose will be showing his cartoonish, fragmented portraits […]

Releases: REVOK – 1313 Milwaukee @ 1xRUN

Releasing at 9am Pacific (noon Eastern) time on Tuesday, March 19 by 1xRUN is a limited edition (of 200) print by the highly respected graffiti writer/fine artist REVOK. Titled 1313 Milwaukee and priced at $200, it is a 30″x30″ archival pigment print on hand-deckled, 300gsm water color cotton paper. Based on the assemblage pieces the artist does in Detroit that are composed of bits and pieces of the city, it will be the one and only edition that he will make based on these works. […]

The untimely recent passing of Justin Van Hoy has had an huge impact on the artistic community he was associated with. The Los Angeles based gallerist, artist and designer sadly lost his long battle with cancer in November shortly after his book Milk and Honey: Contemporary Art in California was published. Featuring two graf legends who have mastered a aesthetic of their own, this recent collaboration from REVOK and RIME really hit the spot. Entitled A MAN’s THREAT & A WOMAN’s PET, the mural combined many elements from the two MSK brothers’ work including the figurative stylings of Jersey Joe and the strength of lettering from REVOK. Not only did Known Gallery host an opening reception from SABER (interviewed) on Saturday night (covered), the Los Angeles showspace also featured new works from REVOK in a joint exhibition. Entitled Gilgamesh, the collection of intricately assembled sculptural pieces represent a carefully selected montage of found materials garnered from the slowly decaying areas of Detroit, REVOK’s current city of choice and source of inspiration.
