Daniel Arsham’s exhibition, Reach Ruin, recently opened at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia where he was the artist-in-residence. Arsham, who is also one-half of design studio Snarkitecture (a partnership with Alex Mustonen) was inspired by his experiences with Hurricane Andrew as a youngster (the show’s title is an anagram for the word hurricane) to create a series of works that speak to the fragility of architecture in the face of the destructive power of nature. Publications: Michael Murphy For Time Magazine Person of the Year Edition

Congratulations to Michael Murphy on this recently completed commission for Time Magazine. The full panoramic view (captured in the animated GIF above) of the sculptural portrait of Barack Obama is featured on the iPad edition of Time’s Person Of The Year edition. Mike’s 66 piece reverse stencil sculpture is reminiscent of the public commission memorial sculpture he created of Stephanie Tubbs Jones in Cleveland a couple of years ago. Openings: Bob Dob – “Mouseketeer Army” @ La Luz de Jesus

Back in November, the La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Angeles hosted all new works from Bob Dob (alongside Nathan Ota’s solo). Entitled Mouseketeer Army, the showing featured 76 new paintings that could be arranged together into the shape of his surreal take on the American Flag and were thematically based on a back story of the radical Youth International Party invading Disneyland. Rounding out the exhibition were a series of large-scale three dimensional works based on the Southern California-based artist’s most popular characters. Discuss Bob Dob here.

The only thing you need to know about Matthew Marks Gallery is that it represents Jasper Johns, (arguably) the greatest living artist in the world. Looking further, you will see that the gallery also represents other top artists as well. While checking out the PULSE art fair (highlights here) during Basel Week Miami, we made sure to stop by the Joshua Liner booth to see what they had to offer. AM found time to visit another fair in Midtown Miami, the inaugural Miami Project earlier this week. Unlike most new fairs, we were impressed by their solid lineup of respected galleries and great facilities. This is perhaps this is due to the experience of the fair’s organizers, artMRKT Productions, who have already held fairs Houston, San Francisco, and the Hamptons. An art fair we always check out while we are in town for Basel Week Miami is the sister fair of SCOPE – Art Asia. While there perusing gems from the Far East, we are sure to come upon new names to follow as well as catch up with more familiar artists.
