According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Not only are the resulting portraits technically sound, the duo were able to capture the essence of each artist – for example, Shawn Barber (featured) and his tattoos, Tiffany Bozic and her bird, or SHAG (interviewed) in a modern retro setting. Our friends at the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil project have been celebrating the art of the circus poster since late last year, commissioning Cirque-inspired pieces by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, El Mac, Jon Burgerman, Jason Limon, Shag, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson with upcoming works by Tara McPherson, Ron English, Travis Louie and Miss Van. One of the highlights of the Scope Art Fair this year was the booth from LA’s Corey Helford Gallery. Last Saturday night, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted the opening of SHAG’s (interviewed) newest body of work “Ambergris” (previewed). As indicated by the obscure title, the new collection of paintings are centered on a nautical, and more specifically, a whaling theme, all while maintaining his mid-century aesthetic. Last Saturday, the long time running publication BLAB! completed its makeover with their reoccurring show at Copro Gallery – this time as BLABWORLD. The renamed anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp focused on thematic works based on “scenes from THE HEREAFTER” and a nice slate of artists obliged with their unique interpretations. Last Saturday, AM attended Copro Gallery for the anniversary of one of our favorite magazines – Hi-Fructose.
