Coming up at the end of June, Joshua Liner will be hosting a new solo from Shawn Barber (interviewed). Featuring his Tattooed Portraits, this second showing (see 2010) with the New York gallery draws on his day job as a successful tattoo artist for inspiration on a series of rich oil paintings including a huge 72″ x 108″ piece of Japanese tattooist Shige. Tomorrow night, the Joshua Liner Gallery will host the opening of a group exhibition, entitled Resolve. The show consists of an impressive list of twenty-two painters, two sculptors and one photographer, personally selected by gallery artist Tony Curanaj with a focus on artistic skill and the realistic depiction of the figure, still life and landscape. After hosting the first part of their 25th anniversary group show last month, La Luz De Jesus makes room for the opening of round two of the festivities on November 4th. We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. We helped sponsor a fundraiser created by the gallery to generate funds that went to support Tim and his medical bills. This Thursday, a very special art fundraiser will be held at Joshua Liner Gallery for our friend Tim Strazza who was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are helping to sponsor a benefit event where all proceeds will go to his medical bills. After moving away from San Francisco to Los Angeles two years ago to concentrate on painting and opening Memoir Tattoo with his girlfriend, Shawn Barber (interviewed) decided to revisit his previous home city with a new exhibition, Youth of Today at Fecal Face Dot Gallery. On July 8th, the Bay Area will welcome master tattooist and fine artist Shawn Barber’s (featured) and his new collection of paintings. For those familiar with his work, they will know of a certain group of paintings he calls the the Doll Series – from which it looks like some of these preview images would fit in. Coming up later this month, February 25th to be exact, the London Miles Gallery will be hosting a group show based thematically on tattoos and their associated paraphernalia. Entitled “Pens and Needles”, the exhibition will feature photographs, original stencils from tattoos, paintings and live tattooing and includes artist (fine art and tattoo artists) Shawn Barber, Estevan Oriol, and Tom Bagshaw. It certainly sounds like a night for good art, especially if you are into the culture.
