Releases: Shepard Fairey x The Simpsons “Dope” Poster

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and Robbie Conal made an appearance and Bart taps into the street art craze with imagery inspired by Homer.  Well, the Dope stencil that Bart was seen putting up all over town is now available as a poster from Shep as an open edition through Urban Outfitters. For those who missed the Simpsons last night, you might want to check out the video of the opening sequence above as acclaimed animator and cartoonist Bill Plympton was tapped to create the short. Joining other artists familiar to AM readers who have been involved in the show including Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, Plympton used his distinctive style to put together a love affair between Homer and his couch. If you missed the Exit Through The Kwik-E-Mart on The Simpsons that aired earlier this month, you can now watch the entire episode on Hulu. Episode 15 of the 23rd season features Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and Robbie Conal as they give Bart some tongue-in-cheek career advice on being a street artist.

Creative Process: Banksy x Simpsons Intro Animation

Banksy recently gave us an inside look behind how he created and directed the incredible animated intro for the Simpsons episode that aired last fall. The storyboard sketch details an acerbic wit that may have been sharper than FOX would have liked: Take for example the Rupert Murdoch portrait hidden behind the t-shirt scene or the skeletal dipping of the animation cel into the toxic drums.
