A few gems were on display, which included new works from Jonathan Viner (Sloan Art), Evan B Harris (Red Truck Gallery), Brendan Monroe (Park Life), […]

Showing: Jonathan Viner & Elizabeth McGrath @ Sloan Fine Art

AM stopped by the LES district last week in New York to catch the latest show from Jonathan Viner and Elizabeth McGrath held at Sloan Fine Art (previewed). Jonathan’s exhibition Computer Science tugged at our heart as it brought back nostalgic memories of a time that has faded from our view by taking us on a retro journey when our parents were young, cool and of course rocking the over-sized electronic systems. Viner’s style seemed to capture that tinted and earthy style of the seventies […]

Openings: Kristen Schiele – “Elektra” @ Sloan Fine Art

Kristen Schiele’s solo show “Elektra” opened this past Wednesday evening at New York’s Sloan Fine Art. We love Kristen’s use of multiple mediums and her thrilling mixture of oil paint and screen print in her compositions featuring skewed architecture and a cast of 70’s femme noir characters. We recently interviewed Kristen just ahead of this show, and if you missed it first time around you can catch that here. More opening night pictures courtesy of Anna Ortt after the jump.

This is Kristen’s second solo with the gallery since 2008 when she held the honour of the gallery’s inaugural solo exhibition with a body of work entitled “My Dream Is Yours“. AM caught up with Kristen to find out a little more […]

Coming in October, Karen Chau is set to make her debut with Sloan Fine Art and we’ve got special teaser images of some of the works that art going to be at the special Halloween showing. For those that may not immediately know the Chinese painter, look closer… You may recognize her style as she’s the creator of one of our favorite children’s cartoon Ni Hao, Kai-Lan currently on Nickelodeon. Chris has been working hard on this show and came through with 39 detailed pieces to show for his efforts. As mentioned in our previews (here & here), Chris utilizes a mixed technique blending his heritage of studying the “old masters” with his unique brushstrokes on photographic paper to create a dream like effect. This beautiful hazy effect is something that is further illuminated by seeing his art […]

Studio Visits/Preview: Eric White – “LP” @ Sloan Fine Art

Last week, AM had the opportunity to drop by Eric White’s Brooklyn studio, and got a sneak peak of his space and some of the work for his upcoming exhibit “LP,” opening at Sloan Fine Art Sept. 12. As the title implies, the show will consist of White’s interpretations of classic album covers—more specifically, those from before 1983, the year when he got his first CD player. At first glance, the 12″ paintings often look exactly like record sleeves from Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads, Pink […]

Releases: Marion Peck – F*ck You print

New York gallery Sloan Fine Art recently released an exclusive giclee print from one of the leading lights of the pop-surrealism scene – Marion Peck.  The painting, of which this print is based on, was one of the stand out pieces featured in Marion’s recent solo show with Sloan Fine Art – “Ladies and Clowns” (covered).  The print is released in an edition of just 40, and after pre-sales to Alix Sloan’s Marion Peck collector list, we understand that now there are just a handful […]
