Showing concurrently with Audrey Kawasaki’s solo tonight at Thinkspace will be Stella Im Hultberg’s (interviewed) Hollow Resonance in the Culver City gallery’s project room. Hultberg’s new body of work include both acrylic on wood paintings as well as some looser pieces combining ink, watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencils. Expanding on her use of flowers in her compositions of late, the Portland-based artist has surrounded her pensive women with a bountiful supply of blooms and petals. Previews: “LAX / ORD” @ Vertical Gallery

Continuing their series of curatorial group shows, Thinkspace will be bringing their roster of artists to Chicago on September 3rd at Vertical Gallery. Like previous iterations, the show is titled after the airports of Los Angeles, where the gallery is based and the location where they are visiting – LAX / ORD. On October 1st, Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) will be opening her first solo show in four years at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Entitled Stranger, the new selection of paintings continues the current uplifting direction of her work and promises to feature her female subjects surrounding by a lot of flowers. On March 5th, Hellion Gallery’s Portland location will be opening a group exhibition featuring works created on small wooden plaques called “Ema” on which Shinto worshipers write their prayers or wishes.
