Streets: Banksy Vs. Robbo

So… It seems that one of the pieces Banksy put up last week has a back story that most didn’t know about. Apparently, he stenciled over a 1985 piece by Robbo and other writers who were some of the pioneers of graf in London in the mid 80s. This has caused a pretty strong outrage among some old school graffiti writers and it looks like Robbo has gone back to paint over the piece, cleverly incorporating Banksy’s piece just like Banksy incorporated his. AM dropped by Corey Helford Gallery’s Multi-Plane Show opening (previewed) to see how the finished pieces turned out. The gallery came up with the show’s “Multi-Plane” theme by borrowing the idea from past animation techniques where scenes were created using multiple cell layers. Art of the State recently posted up a quick video walkthrough that takes your past all the stencils which gives you a nice perspective into the locations that the Bristol Bomber chose for each piece. Openings: Winter Group Show @ White Walls

In addition to Travis Louie’s (interviewed) opening at Shooting Gallery last weekend (covered), the Winter Group Show debuted alongside in the adjoining White Walls gallery. Featuring some heavy hitters such as Shepard Fairey (featured), the Clayton Brothers (featured), and Anthony Lister (interviewed) the group show also boasts some upcoming and very exciting talent, namely artists like Nas Champas, Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed and pictured above), Aaron Nagel, and Casey Gray. Streets: Os Gemeos Performance

Os Gemeos recently participated in a public performance in downtown São Paulo of “The Stranger” aided by a large balloon of one of their classic figures. The parade performance was done in collaboration with Plasticien Volants, a world-renowned French company which specializes in creating aerial theater with giant inflatable puppets. Video: Gaia x No Longer Empty

One of the artists that we met up with this year at Art Basel, Gaia, recently collaborated with No Longer Empty (NLE) to paint a Chinatown pulldown gate in NYC. ESPO – A Love Letter For You (Xmas Edition)

Looks like Steve “ESPO” Power’s “A Love Letter For You” crew has been working hard beautifying West Philadelphia in time for Xmas. With the last several murals (48th, 49th, and 50th) finished during a blizzard, the impressive project is completed, but hopefully the artwork will continue to remind the City of Brotherly Love of their namesake for many years to come.
