It is no secret that we at AM are big fans of the general program that the Joshua Liner Gallery has put together for 2010. Even so, the two exhibitions that the gallery opened last Friday – “From Kojiki to Modern Heroism,” the two-person show featuring Tat Ito and Hiro Kurata, and “Refuge,” Tristram Lansdowne’s (interviewed) solo show – have been particular highlights we have been eagerly awaiting. AM recently had the pleasure of visiting with Tat Ito at the Queens, NY, studio that he shares with his assistant Yuyu Yang. Readers may remember that we thought that Ito was one of the standout new artists included in Joshua Liner Gallery’s excellent summer group show (covered). Well, Mr. Liner must have agreed with us, because Ito has a show with the gallery scheduled for February 2010, and from what we saw during our studio visit, it’s going to be a stunner.

Saturday night, AM attended the opening of Joshua Liner Gallery’s summer group exhibition, which collects solid works from a very strong roster of artists, some of whom the gallery has shown previously and others of whom the gallery is working with for the first time. From the show, it is clear that Liner is actively evolving and maturing his gallery. And from the response from collectors and others at the opening, it seems that what he’s doing is working.
