Album Covers: Tim Barber x Elton John – “The Diving Board”

Continuing a long line of artists seen here on AM who have collaborated on album covers, a Tim Barber image graces the cover of Elton John’s soon-to-be released The Diving Board. The former photo editor of famed Vice Magazine’s iconic shot of a man standing on edge, over looking an ocean, looks to be somewhat modified to fit the format – if you remember, this piece was seen at his solo show in Los Angeles in 2010 (covered). If you are looking for more from Barber, check […]

Publications: Tim Barber “Untitled Photographs” Book

A year ago this month, Tim Barber unveiled an expansive and inspired debut US solo exhibition at OHWOW in Miami. Appropriately dubbed Untitled Photographs, the inviting body of work is comprised of a series of candid and composed portraits, landscapes, and narrative scenes spanning over a decade. Now, OHWOW’s pervasive publishing wing has graciously produced a book to memorialize the exhibition, including an introduction by writer, director, and actress Miranda July and an essay by Jesse Pearson, writer, curator, and former editor-in-chief of Vice Magazine where […]

Showing: Tim Barber – “Welcome to Earth” @ Yuka Tsuruno (Tokyo)

On September 24th, Tim Barber unveiled a new body of work at Tokyo-based Yuka Tsuruno. Welcome to Earth sees the established New York-based photographer return to the Japanese gallery, where he showed in February 2010. In a departure from the bold color shots shown at his 2001 exhibition earlier this year in New York, the new series opts instead for a subdued black and white format. Long known as a behind the scenes player in the art world, Barber has slowly but surely made his […]

Members-only print house Exhibition A (membership is free and open to public) has recently released a host of worthwhile and affordable editions from a strong roster of contemporary artists. The first new release comes from their Feature Artist of the Month, Tim Barber. The New York-based photographer, who made waves with his breakout solo exhibition Untitled Photographs last year, plays in the same thematic realms as friends and contemporaries Ryan McGinley and Dash Snow. Untitled (bluff), which actually was one of the stars of that […]

Benefits: RxArt 2011 Gala

AM recently attended the annual RxArt benefit gala. The non-profit organization dedicated to placing original fine art (see Jeff Koons) in patient and examination rooms of hospitals have long garnered the staunch support from some other big names in art such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yoshitomo Nara, Marilyn Minter and Ed Ruscha. This year the silent auction was once again filled with impressive original works from notables such as Nate Lowman, José Parlá, Matthew Brannon, Aurel Schmidt, Terry Richardson, Ed Templeton, Tim Barber, Robert […]

Openings: Tim Barber – “2001” @ Primary Photographic Gallery

After a hugely successful US debut solo exhibition, Untitled Photographs (covered), with OHWOW in the fall, Tim Barber quietly unveiled a new body of work over the weekend. Hosted by Primary Photographic Gallery, the New York-based photographer showed a collection of work distinctly more colorful and more nature oriented, an apparent departure from the predominate portraiture focus of his last exhibition. The distinguished former photo editor of Vice Magazine, founder of tinyvices, and longtime friend – and pervasive early subject – of Ryan McGinley tended […]
